Other Helpful Agencies for Consumers

The Wyoming Attorney General's Office is not the only agency that can assist consumers. The Office often refers consumers to other agencies that can better assist with the consumer's issue. Here is a list of some other agencies that may be helpful to you depending upon your situation:

Wyoming Insurance Commission

Provides optimum consumer protection and support to Wyoming residents by investigating consumer complaints and resolving issues on insurance matters.



Wyoming Secretary of State's Office

Compliance Division

Contact the Wyoming Compliance Division to see if the investment vehicle and the person selling it are registered. They will also be able to tell you if the salesperson has a disciplinary history, that is, whether any civil, criminal or administrative proceedings have been brought against him or her.


Wyoming Public Service Commission

The Public Service Commission Office of Consumer Advocate provides independent and direct representation of Wyoming utility rate payers before the Wyoming Public Service Commission in utility filings and applications in which the public interest is contested.


Wyoming Division of Banking

The Wyoming Division of Banking investigates consumer complaints when they involve state-chartered financial institutions and businesses that extend credit to consumers.


Wyoming Veteran's Commission

Assists Veterans with benefits, whether it is trying to pass legislation, establishing programs, or providing information on what benefits are available.

The FTC is the nation's consumer protection agency. It collects complaints about companies, business practices, identity theft and episodes of violence in the media. Your complaints can help detect patterns of wrong doing, and lead to investigations and prosecutions. The FTC does not resolve individual complaints.


Federal Communications Commission

The FCC is a federal agency responsible for implementing and enforcing American's communications law and regulations. Consumers may file a complaint or share their experience about a telecom billing or service issue.


Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

The CFPB is an agency responsible for consumer protection in the financial sector, It works to empower consumers to take more control over their economic lives, and provide consumers the information they need to understand the terms of their agreements with financial companies.

Medicare fraud happens when Medicare is billed for services or supplies you never received.


IRS Office of Taxpayer Advocate

The IRS Taxpayer Advocate ensures that each taxpayer is treated fairly, and that taxpayers know and understand their rights. The Taxpayer Advocate offers free help to guide taxpayers through the often confusing process of resolving tax problems that taxpayers have been unable to resolve on their own.

Aids consumers and businesses by supplying reports on the reliability of companies and charities. The BBB also provides dispute resolution services and consumer education materials. Much of Wyoming is served by the the BBB office for Northern Colorado and Wyoming.

Equal Justice Wyoming

Equal Justice Wyoming's website has a wide variety of self-help information and forms available as well as links to other useful legal resources.


Legal Aid of Wyoming

Provides legal assistance to low income individuals living in Wyoming. Legal Aid provides representation in many, though not all, types of civil cases. They cannot represent defendants in criminal cases.

Under a Grant provided by the Wyoming Attorney General's Office, WHN provides Wyomingites with counseling services in the following areas: home-ownership, foreclosure prevention and mitigation, post-foreclosure, rental, and reverse mortgage.

Laramie County Community Partnership and HealthWorks Medical-Legal Partnership brings free legal assistance to low-income patients who are experiencing legal problems.

This is Wyoming's first Medical-Legal Partnership.
