Wyoming Insurance Department Warns Against Unlicensed Health Coverage Marketed by LifeX Research Corporation
CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Insurance (DOI) is issuing a consumer alert to warn residents against enrolling in health coverage marketed by LifeX Research Corporation.
LifeX Research Corporation is not licensed to sell insurance products in Wyoming. The DOI has received complaints that consumers were told they could obtain health coverage through LifeX by becoming LifeX “employees.” This misleading strategy is used to bypass insurance regulations. LifeX plans have also been associated with Benefit Health Plan, Inc., Benefit Logistics Captive Insurance Company, and similar plans sold by Detego.
Consumers are often falsely told that coverage will be backed by well-known national insurers. Because these plans are not recognized as major medical insurance, hospitals, clinics, and doctors are regularly rejecting the insurance cards. As a result, consumers are left entirely responsible for large medical bills, with some cases reaching tens of thousands of dollars.
“These companies are not licensed to sell insurance in Wyoming. There is a real chance the plans will not be accepted, and the consumer could be billed for these services,” said Wyoming Insurance Commissioner Jeff Rude.
Consumer Warnings & Protective Steps
The Department advises consumers to question:
• High-pressure sales tactics
• Mandatory association or application fees
• Withheld company or policy details
• False claims that major national insurers back the policies
When speaking with sales representatives, ask for their license number and get full details on the exact coverage, who is selling the product, and the company underwriting the plan before committing to purchase. All agent, agency, and company licensing information is public and available by calling the DOI or searching online.
Open Enrollment Advisory
During open enrollment, the Department encourages consumers to use Healthcare.gov to shop the marketplace. Pay close attention to web addresses, as deceptive entities often create websites using URLs very similar to the federal portal.
